Rubau wins contract for a highway in Mexico worth more than 200 million euros
This is an automated translation of the press release issued in Spanish
Rubau , together with the Mexican company VISE , has won the concession for the highway that will connect the towns of Silao and San Miquel de Allende, in the state of Guanajuato in Mexico. The award is for a period of 30 years with the objective of carrying out the design, construction, operation, exploitation, conservation and maintenance of this infrastructure. The works must be completed in the next 24 months. This contract also includes the concession for the rehabilitation, operation, exploitation, conservation and maintenance of the highway that connects Silao with Guanajuato, which already exists. Overall, this is a large-scale project that involves a total investment of close to 300 million euros, 200 million of which correspond to construction . Up to 15 companies started the bidding process, but finally this macro-project has been awarded to the consortium formed by Rubau and VISE.
The starting point is the complete remodelling of the state-owned highway that links Guanajuato with Silao. Of the total amount to be invested, 27 million euros will be allocated for this project and it will consist of the relocation of its toll collection area and the expansion of its lanes, from the current five to eight. Once this project is completed, Rubau and VISE will continue to manage this road, taking charge of its operation, upkeep and maintenance.
The new highway between Silao and San Miguel de Allende will be built with the aim of improving communication and connectivity in the state of Guanajuato. It will serve to speed up traffic between both towns, separated by approximately 86 kilometers, and will also contribute to promoting and connecting the Valle de la Independencia region with the Bajío International Airport, the entire western part of the state (León and its surroundings) and the central western part of the country. The offer presented by our consortium guarantees that both highways will maintain high standards of operation and maintenance for 30 years.
With this award we strengthen our position in the concession business and our presence in Mexico , where we are currently in a joint venture with HYCSA, carrying out the conservation, rehabilitation and modernization works on the roads between Maravatío – Irimbo, Irimbo – Tuxpan and Tuxpan – Zitacuaro. This project is owned by the Western Highway Network, the budget is approximately 84 million euros and its execution is scheduled to end in 2026.
