Electricity coverage in the rural area of Cochabamba increased from 74% to 84% in two years, while in the urban area it reaches 99.8%, reported President Luis Arce Catacora during the inauguration of the Carrasco – Santiváñez Transmission Line in 500 kilovolts (kv) and associated substations.
“Today, with great pride and work, we can say that in just two years we have advanced 10 percentage points. More than 200,000 Cochabamba residents in rural areas today have electricity,” stated the President when highlighting the progress in the current administration of the Government.
It is a strategic work that crosses the heart of the country, unites the central axis made up of La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz, and guarantees the round-trip electricity supply. The Head of State also highlighted the dimension of the work and the investment of Bs 1,385 million.
In this regard, the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy, Franklin Molina Ortiz, stated that with this work “we guarantee multiple industrial projects in different areas of the country that will be installed in the future and we are sure that with this type of works we help improve the stability and we avoid possible collapses in the transmission network.”
To graph the magnitude of the work, he explained that the first section has an altitude of less than 1,000 meters above sea level (masl) and begins at the Carrasco substation; The second section has an altitude between 1,000 and 4,100 meters above sea level and connects the line with the Santivañez II substation. In addition, the project includes 500 kV installations in the aforementioned substations.
Likewise, he maintained that the project strengthens electrical transmission in the central section of the National Interconnected System (SIN), allows for unlimited transport of the current and future power of the generation plants located in the central-eastern areas and, in addition, is part of the export corridor.
