Rusal plans investment, continuous operation at aluminum plants

Russian aluminum giant Rusal plans to convert its three plants in Jamaica into "base locations," meaning they will operate all the time instead of running only at certain price levels, Jamaican press reported. The company also plans to invest US$100mn in a coal-fired power plant due to start operations in 2015, reports said, citing Jamaica''s minister of science, technology, energy and mining, Phillip Paulwell. Rusal, one of the world's biggest aluminum makers, produced 4.12Mt in 2011.
