Santos Dumont airport runway gets overhaul for privatization
Brazil announced a revamp of the main runway at Santos Dumont airport, in Rio de Janeiro city, as part of government plans to attract investors to such assets.
Works will last from August 12 to September 12 and a secondary runway will operate during the period, the infrastructure ministry said.
Investment figures were not disclosed.
The government is renovating certain airports under a program to auction concessions of various airports in coming years.
Auctions for Santos Dumont and Congonhas airports have already been announced. Those two airports are among the busiest and most profitable in Brazil and are still under the administration of airports authority Infraero.
