São Paulo gives green light to US$625mn subway line extension
Brazil’s São Paulo state authorized the preparation of feasibility studies and executive projects for the extension of subway line No. 5, which requires estimated investment 3.4bn reais (US$625mn).
The line will be extended by 4.3km, with 3.2 km elevated and 1.1km underground, and will connect to a bus terminal, the state government said in a release.
The project also involves roadworks and the construction of a pedestrian walkway.
Works are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025 and be completed in 2028, the government added. They will be carried out by concessionaire ViaMobilidade, which is controlled by infrastructure firm CCR with a 83.3% stake while RuasInvests holds the other 16.7%.
Line 5 is currently 20km long and has 17 stations and is used by 507,000 passengers a day. With the extension it will have 19 stations and serve 650,000 passengers a day.
