São Paulo obtains environmental license for US$560mn metro line extension

São Paulo state’s environmental agency Cetesb granted the preliminary environmental license to extend subway line No. 4, a project estimated to need 3.4bn reais (US$560mn).

Now, the state government is only awaiting approval of the installation environmental license to begin the works. This final license is expected to be issued this month and construction is due to start before year-end, a spokesperson for the Brazilian state told BNamericas.

The works will be carried out by ViaQuatro, a subsidiary of local infrastructure company CCR, which operates the line under a concession.

The 3.3km extension includes two new stations, Dumont Villares and Taboão da Serra, and is expected to be completed by 2028.

Currently, the 12.8km line has 11 stations.
