São Paulo starts public consultation for train lines tender worth over US$2bn
São Paulo state kicked off the public consultation phase for its plan to offer PPP contracts for metropolitan train lines, which are set to demand investments of around 12.5 billion reais (US$2.29bn).
The consultation be open until July 18 and will help the state government to prepare the tender notice.
The state is looking to offer PPP contracts for line No. 11-Coral, 12-Safira and 13-Jade, all currently operated by state-owned CPTM.
Private sector companies will operate the lines and make new investments in expanding them, including new stations.
"There will be upgrades of existing stations, reconstructions and new investments in viaducts and walkways. The modernization of all line systems is also planned," the state government said in a press release.
Line No. 13-Jade will be extended to Guarulhos city, with four stations between Guarulhos international airport and the Bonsucesso neighborhood. The line will also have a connection with line No. 2-Green of the subway system.
“We’re going to connect one of the most populous regions of Guarulhos to Paulista Avenue, in the center of São Paulo, and to the subway, which is a very important benefit for the entire metropolitan region," said André Barnabé, executive secretary of the state’s department for investment partnerships.
Line No. 11-Coral will have four new stations, while one station will be added to line No. 12-Safira.
The state government has previously said it expects to offer the contracts via a single lot in an auction that will be held in the fourth quarter.
