São Paulo state kicks off structuring of US$8.6bn infra concessions

Brazil’s São Paulo state began the structuring of concessions for highways and urban train networks that are expected to attract investments worth 42.3bn reais (US$8.60bn).

A total of 11 contracts will be structured and offered via auctions through 2026, the state government said in a statement.

“These are very important projects and I’m very optimistic about the success of these actions. I have noticed strong interest in our projects, which will transform infrastructure and mobility in São Paulo state,” said governor Tarcísio de Freitas.

The IFC is supporting the state in structuring the concessions.

In the highway segment, there will be concessions for stretches in the interior, coast and metropolitan region that are currently operated by the state’s highways department (DER).

The railway segment will see concessions of lines and PPPs for the expansion of rail stretches, including the offering of subway lines 10-turquoise, 11-coral, 12-sapphire, 13-jade and the future 14-onyx. The lines are currently operated by state-owned CPTM.

The state government also said that is advancing with the evaluation to privatize water utility Sabesp.
