São Paulo state plans concessions for 9 parks

Brazil’s São Paulo state is planning concessions for nine parks, comprising a total of 20Mm2.

The concessions are projected to attract investments of 200mn reais (US$41mn) and reduce annual government expenditure by 48mn, the state government said in a press release without providing a timetable.

Five of the parks are on the east side of the state capital: Belém-Manoel Pita, Itaim Biacica, Vila Jacuí, Parque Ecológico do Tietê, Helena.

The Parque da Juventude Dom Paulo Evaristo Arns is located in the north, Parque Ecológico do Guarapiranga in the south, while Parque Jequitibá is on the border between the capital and Cotia city, with Parque Estadual Chácara da Baronesa in Santo André.

HOUSING PROGRAM

The state also said it plans the construction of 50,000 houses for low-income families under its investment partnerships program (PPI-SP).

It is expected to generate investments of 12bn reais and benefit 175,000 people.

The local authorities will now evaluate if the plan will be implemented via a concession or PPP contract.
