São Paulo state seeks to buy urban trains for over US$730mn

São Paulo state launched a 3.6bn-real (US$734mn) tender to buy 44 urban passenger trains.

With six cars each, the new trains will serve the line No. 2 metro extension, line No. 1 and line No. 3.

Financing will be provided by development bank BNDES and offers may be submitted through March 20. The notice is available here.

"The company with the lowest price will be the winner of the bid and must present the first train after 21 months, with a delivery of one train per month until the deadline for delivery of the last train, in 58 months. On six occasions, two trains will be provided per month, over a period of 24 to 48 months," according to a press release.

"The acquisition of 44 new metro trains will help increase transport capacity, reducing waiting times and providing a more fluid passenger flow. The new trains will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology, ensuring energy efficiency, safety and comfort for passengers. The new trains aim to meet the growing demand for public transport, providing a more comfortable and modern experience for metro users," it added.
