Saudi Arabian mining minister to visit Brazil, Chile to prospect business ops

Saudi Arabian government representatives are set to visit Brazil and Chile this month in order to assess investment opportunities in mining and other sectors in both nations.

The Middle Eastern country's minister of industry and mineral resources, Bandar Ibrahim Alkhorayef, and vice minister for mining affairs, Khalid Saleh Al-Mudaifer, will visit South America from July 22 to July 30.

"This high-level visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties, attract investments into Saudi Arabia, and seek mutually beneficial investment opportunities in both mineral and industrial sectors," the Saudi Arabian government said in a statement released through state-run news agency SPA.

"The ministry’s delegation will visit major cities in Brazil, including São Paulo, Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, and Santiago in Chile. This visit aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 goals to diversify the economy and turn the Kingdom into an industrial and economic powerhouse."

"Brazil and Chile are renowned for their vast mineral resources, with the former sharing a longstanding bilateral relationship spanning over 50 years with Saudi Arabia," it added.

In Brazil, the officials will visit mining association Ibram and local mining giant Vale, as well as Brazilian meatpackers Minerva Foods, JBS and BRF.

Saudi Arabia already has a portfolio of investments in Brazil, including a recently acquired 10% stake in Vale Base Metals, secured through Manara Minerals, a joint venture between the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Ma’aden.

Meanwhile, in Chile, Alkhorayef will meet with Chilean mining minister Aurora Williams, other ministerial officials and key leaders from Chilean industry federation Sofofa, along with executives at state-run miner Codelco, Antofagasta plc, and other companies.

Chile is a global powerhouse in copper and lithium, which is a key mineral for the manufacture of electric vehicles, which is in line with Saudi Arabia's plans to expand production of these vehicles.
