Scala, Vertiv sign strategic agreement for thermal management solutions in Latin America

Vertiv will deliver, in the first phase of the project, 364 fan coil units for CRAH (Computer Room Air Handler, air handling unit for computer room) and 58 chillers for Scala Hyperscale Data Centers, with an estimated cooling capacity of 130 MW at six sites, with approximately 93 MW in Brazil and 38 MW in Chile. By the final phase of the project, eleven data center sites will be supported by Vertiv thermal management solutions in Brazil, Chile and Colombia. The equipment supplied during the contract period will feature the latest technology, allowing the sites to keep pace with advances in resources and energy efficiency.

Free-cooling chillers with an adiabatic solution were selected to provide the best dynamic efficiency for several of Scala's data halls, in line with Scala's sustainability strategy. Vertiv's solutions have full redundancy, with a backup cooling unit for each primary unit -- this is a critical requirement for Scala to support its customers' business continuity.

In the first phase, Vertiv's solutions will be installed in the data centers that Scala is building in Latin America, including two campuses in Brazil: Tamboré, located in Barueri (SP), which is the largest data center campus in Latin America with 600 MW of guaranteed power; and a second campus in Jundiaí, in the interior of São Paulo. In Chile, the equipment will be used in data centers being built at Campus Lampa, near Santiago, which is the largest data center campus ever authorized in the country, with a total capacity of 120 MW. The data centers in Colombia will be contemplated with further investments. Since its founding in 2020, Scala has invested more than R＄6 billion in its projects in the region.

Vertiv and Scala engineers worked together in Latin America and at Vertiv manufacturing plants in Italy and Slovakia to create a dedicated Scala production line. Teams of engineering, research and development (R&D), assembly line and testing professionals from both organizations worked together to develop a completely customized project for Scala and its customers' critical digital infrastructure needs.

In the view of Marcos Peigo, CEO and co-founder of Scala, the decision to choose Vertiv to be its long-term partner in thermal management solutions is the result of a many-year relationship between the engineering teams of the two companies. “Scala acts as a trusted advisor with its customers, always working with innovative solutions that provide the best performance and meet efficiency requirements. Another strategic point of the exclusive agreement is that Scala and its customers will be supported by a fully dedicated Vertiv Customer Services manager at each Scala data center campus in Brazil, Chile and Colombia. Vertiv's expert service engineers will deliver a preventive and proactive maintenance program to achieve maximum reliability and maximum efficiency from Scala's thermal management systems. In addition, Vertiv will manage spare parts and equipment inventory on Scala's campuses, reducing the time needed to complete service needs.
