Sencinet inks LatAm satellite contract with Starlink

Sencinet told BNamericas it has signed a contract with Starlink to offer satellite connectivity to Latin American corporates.

In Brazil, Sencinet was the integrator of a connectivity project relying on Starlink's low-orbit satellite constellation for Bradesco's bank branches in the Amazon region.

The agreement with Starlink establishes that Sencinet becomes an authorized reseller of the US company’s services in the Latin American corporate market.

The contract is not exclusive, which means that other integrators can also work on corporate satellite projects using Starlink, according to this source.

Sencinet's main regional competitors include Speedcast (SC Caprock), Telespazio and América Móvil's Embratel.

SC is responsible for Starlink satellite connectivity for Bradesco's rival Itaú, which became the first Latin American bank to use the internet satellite service provider.

SC and Nokia also have a partnership with Starlink to provide both mobile and satellite connectivity for private networks. Telespazio, in turn, is working in the region mostly with low-orbit firm OneWeb.

Telefónica is also marketing Starlink services in the region.

OTHER CUSTOMERS

Sencinet has Starlink customers in the financial market and industrial sector in Colombia, BNamericas was told. Oil and gas companies such as Petrobras and 3R Petroleum also rely on Sencinet for satellite connectivity, although not necessarily using low-orbit connectivity.

One of the main advantages of low-orbit systems is the shorter distance of the satellites from the Earth, which enables faster data transmission with less latency.

Satellite connections are often used by enterprises as backup and redundancy to guarantee the maintenance of connectivity services if problems with the fiber optics structure arise, for example.

According to Sencinet, the Starlink partnership reinforces its movement to offer complete coverage under a “one-stop shop model,” combining connectivity, cloud services and information security.

Sencinet's regional service structure comprises two datacenters in Colombia, one in Brazil and one in Argentina, as well as different network operating centers operating in local languages, with 24/7 service.

The company also provides SD-WAN management solutions and cloud services.
