Sheinbaum backing construction of Mexico City-Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo train

Mexico’s president-elect Claudia Sheinbaum promised to support the construction of infrastructure projects in Nuevo León state during her administration, including building the Mexico City-Nuevo Laredo railroad, which would also link Nuevo León capital Monterrey with the national capital. 

“We will continue to support Nuevo León. As the governor [Samuel García] said, we will support him so he can develop new highways and other essential works that contribute to Nuevo León’s development. This is not a matter of political parties, but a matter of the welfare of Nuevo León’s population,” Sheinbaum was reported as saying during a tour of the state on Sunday by Infobae.  

Sheinbaum added that one of the projects she is committed to building during her term, which begins on October 1, is the railroad between Mexico City and Nuevo Laredo in Tamaulipas state.

The line will run between Mexico City and Monterrey, before continuing on to Nuevo Laredo on the northeast border with the US.

“The trains have been revived [during the term of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador] in the southeast; the Maya train, the interoceanic train. And now we will go to the north and we will develop the Mexico City-Querétaro-San Luis-Coahuila-Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo [train],” she added.
