Sheinbaum’s industrial parks proposal may be feasible

A promise by Mexican presidential candidate Claudia Sheinbaum to build 100 industrial parks if elected could be feasible under certain conditions.
During a press conference on Tuesday, the president of construction chamber CMIC, Luis Méndez Jaled, said any projects must be carefully analyzed as each region of the country requires different investments to boost industrial activity.
He also said that variables like workforce, infrastructure, local regulations, NGO participation and security must be considered.
“All regions can be developed but some need infrastructure, others need available workforce, others require safety and there are geographical topics to take into account,” he said. “Nowadays, the borders of our country have strategically and geographically become hot spots and they must be reinforced with technology and recycled water.”
Sheinbaum recently proposed to create 100 industrial parks and industrial development poles similar to the ones planned for the interoceanic rail corridor, which, however, has not yet consolidated, according to Méndez Jaled.
“If it consolidates in the future, it can also boost some things in that area,” he said.
Elections are slated for June 2 and the next president will take office October 1.
