Sherritt resumes Cuba operations after Hurricane Irma

Sherritt International's Cuba operations have returned to normal after being pounded by Hurricane Irma earlier this month, the Canadian company said in a statement.

The firm's electric power and hydrocarbon facilities suffered only minimal damage and its employees were unharmed, according to CEO David Pathe.

"Although our production activities were interrupted by Hurricane Irma, the disruption was relatively insignificant thanks to the considerable preparation and planning efforts we undertook with our Cuban partners," Pathe said.

"With production and operations back to normal, we now look forward to drill results from our oil exploration activities in the block 10 concession, which we anticipate in Q4 of 2017."

Sherritt resumed drilling in the offshore block 10 on September 18 as part of a production sharing contract with state oil company Cubapetroleo (Cupet).
