Shopee opens its first Fulfillment distribution center in Brazil
This is a machine translation of a press release by Shopee
São Paulo, September 30, 2024 – Shopee, a marketplace that connects sellers and consumers, announces the opening of its first Fulfillment model distribution center located in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. In this operation, products from selected Brazilian sellers are stored in the space and Shopee is responsible for preparing the packages and managing the shipping after the sale on the app. The goal is to optimize the logistics operation and provide a more agile and standardized shopping experience, significantly speeding up delivery to consumers.
Ease for sellers, agility for consumers
The initial implementation of the Fulfillment Center will serve Brazilian sellers focused on electronics, home appliances, and consumer and lifestyle products. The new operation, one of the company’s largest, offers benefits to both sellers and consumers. For merchants, the sales process will be simplified, with Shopee taking over the storage, packaging, and shipping processes of products, allowing them to focus on growing their businesses. For users, delivery times will be reduced.
“We remain focused on supporting Brazilian entrepreneurs who sell on our platform. We expect that the logistical efficiency and support offered by our automated processes will help businesses become even more agile and result in a significant increase in sales for these retailers,” explains Felipe Lima, Head of Business Development at Shopee.
Logistics expansion for Brazilian sellers
The company also has 11 distribution centers in the cross-docking model, in which goods collected via logistics partners are reorganized and directed to last-mile hubs to be delivered to the end consumer. There are 4 units in the state of São Paulo and others in Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Bahia, Pernambuco, Goiás and Rio Grande do Sul.
As part of the expansion and improvements to the user experience, Shopee also has more than 150 logistics hubs, divided between the first mile — responsible for collecting goods and separating them for sending to the distribution center — and the last mile — responsible for delivering products to consumers.
In addition, the company has a fleet of more than 20 thousand partner drivers and more than 2 thousand Shopee Agency points spread throughout Brazil.
