  • With a joint investment of 10,677 million pesos and 232 km, they will benefit more than 1,306,000 inhabitants of both regions
  • The long-awaited works represent savings of up to two hours in travel time for its residents and are of social, economic and tourist use.
  • These are the cable-stayed La Concordia bridge in Chiapas; the Acayucan-La Ventosa highway in Oaxaca and the Minatitlán-Hidalgotitlán road in Veracruz.

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation ( SICT ) delivered and launched, in Chiapas, Oaxaca and Veracruz, the construction and modernization of three infrastructure projects desired by citizens (a bridge, a highway and a road), with a joint investment of 10,677 million pesos and 232 kilometers for the benefit of more than 1,306,000 inhabitants.

These works, long awaited by its residents, represent savings in travel time of up to two hours and are of social, economic and tourist benefit.

Among the recently inaugurated roads is the cable-stayed La Concordia bridge in Chiapas, with an investment of 1,187 million pesos that benefits more than 300,000 inhabitants. It settles a historic debt for 10 municipalities in the region, who have been demanding it for 50 years.

Previously, residents traveled between La Concordia, Ignacio Zaragoza, Rizo de Oro and Chicomuselo in boats or barges to cross the La Angostura Dam, which made it difficult for them to get from one shore to the other or from one town to another, not only because of the time it took, but also because of the risks involved.

During the previous administration, in October 2014, an attempt was made to begin construction of the bridge, but it was not completed. On June 10, 2022, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador gave the instruction to begin the work, so during the current administration, SICT was able to complete it within a period of 16 months.

The bridge is 703 metres long and has a 1 km access road, which reduces travel time from 1 hour to just a few minutes.

Around 10 municipalities in Chiapas will benefit from the new bridge, which will facilitate access to essential health and education services, and will boost trade and tourism.

Another of the works put into operation is the Acayucan-La Ventosa highway , the backbone of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, which links the Pacific and Atlantic oceans for the benefit of 11 municipalities in the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz.

It reduces transit times from four hours previously to two hours between the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz; it benefits more than 1 million inhabitants and facilitates the flow of goods and services, promoting local and national economic development.

It provides greater and better access to health and education services, as well as to tourist destinations, increasing the economy for the inhabitants of the municipalities in the area.

The widening of the road from 10 to 12 meters cost 9,073 million pesos; it consists of 199 km, 6 bridges, 16 interchanges, 15 vehicular crossings and 3 bypasses. It is a toll-free road.

The modernization of the Minatitlán-Hidalgotitlán highway in Veracruz, 32 km long, was also delivered, in which 417 million pesos were invested for the benefit of more than 6 thousand inhabitants who will have better access to basic health and education services.

In addition to improving the transportation of agricultural and commercial products to reach large and diversified markets, it encourages the growth of local businesses.

The modernization of this road reduces the travel time by 45 minutes between the municipalities of Minatitlán and Hidalgotitlán, going from 1 hour to just 30 minutes, which allows an alternative route to reach the Port of Coatzacoalcos. In addition, it favors the industrial development of both municipalities.

The road, which used to be dirt, needed to be modernized. Today it has a surface made of asphalt, hydraulic concrete and gravel, which allows for quick and safe travel.
