Sieca to announce PPP consulting bids May 21

The secretariat for Central American economic integration (Sieca) has closed the process for expressions of interest to carry out a consulting contract to promote more private participation in roads concessions programs in Plan Puebla Panamá (PPP) countries, a Sieca transport official told BNamericas. When asked for further information regarding the process, Sieca official Rafael Pérez declined to comment, only saying that a formal announcement will be made on May 21. The goal of the consultancy tender is to prepare a similar legal and financial architecture for the PPP countries, consolidate related laws and strengthen institutional capacity for concessions, and hold seminars and workshops for public entities and potential concessionaires. Sieca is looking to guarantee an acceptable return on private investment for road concessions, while at the same time empowering the state governments with the needed information to protect its own interests. PPP is made up of Mexico and the Central American countries.
