- Private industry, government and associations in favor of sustainability will work to create a work ecosystem that delivers a “Minimum Viable Product” (MVP) which will serve as an example that can be quickly replicated and implemented in other regions, countries and continents .
- The combination of data-based technologies and public policies aimed at decarbonization will make value chains more transparent, efficient and sustainable.
Hanover, Germany. – Within the framework of the Hannover Messe technology fair in Germany, Siemens Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, the government of the state of Querétaro, the international organization Estainium Association, Sierra Gorda Ecological Group (GESG), OpenForests and Callirius AG, signed a memorandum of understanding that lays the foundations and action plan of the alliance agreed during the last United Nations Conference on Climate Change in 2023 (COP28), for the creation of a sustainable supply chain.
The objective of this important alliance between private industry, government and associations is to establish a comprehensive action plan that allows reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the value chain of Querétaro companies and industries.
The document points out that, in the face of the climate crisis, a global framework is urgently needed for safe, transparent distribution aimed at minimizing the impact on the environment and reducing the costs of financial companies from issuers to environmental restoration organizations. For which an initial version of participation will be implemented so that the work ecosystem delivers a “Minimum Viable Product” (MVP), which will serve as an example that can be quickly replicated and implemented in other regions, countries and continents.
Alejandro Preinfalk, president and CEO of Siemens for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, pointed out that these types of collaborations are of great value for Mexico's industrial ecosystem and the country's sustainability goals.
“We share the vision of sustainability and join forces to accelerate the decarbonization of the supply chain through the SiGREEN platform, a solution that allows precise monitoring of the carbon footprint based on the most common standards and norms of the industries, improving transparency of the supply chain and allowing companies to share data on their emissions, facilitating the evaluation and implementation of measures that can be, among others, the adoption of renewable energies, the efficient use of resources and the optimization of transportation," detailed the executive.
Strategic contributions of the Carbon Ecosystem MVP Development project
- The Government of Querétaro will support by integrating both emissions and compensation records, promoting a fully interconnected system.
- Siemens will implement the SiGREEN analysis tool to track and integrate emissions data with Querétaro's emissions registry.
- Callirius will improve the offset process through its marketplace functionality implemented in SiGreen, facilitating seamless carbon credit transactions.
- OpenForests will develop and oversee the integration of Querétaro's compensation registry, ensuring robust and transparent compensation reporting.
- GESG will provide verified biodiversity carbon offsets from local projects, encouraging local environmental restoration efforts.
Alejandro Preinfalk added that, “the parties that signed this plan, we will be looking to implement the MVP ecosystem towards the end of August 2024 and present the initiative to the global community during New York Climate Week, which will take place from August 22 to 29. September,” he stressed.
