Bnamericas
Representatives from Central American nations belonging to regional grid Siepac (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama) and from Belize, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Mexico signed a cross regional electricity integration declaration, following a meeting held by IDB. Highlights included agreements to explore options to integrate Siepac with Belize, Colombia and Mexico; continue actions towards completing Panama-Colombia interconnection and exploring options to streamline renewable energy development and integration. Additionally Siepac members signed an action plan which aims to finalize Siepac's physical infrastructure by the end of 2014 as well as strengthen regional power market MER's functionality. The action plan also seeks to formulate and apply a regional tariff mechanism and promote, by December 2014, the implementation of a regulatory framework to permit transactions through fixed contracts and transmission rights schemes.
