Silva Ruete resigns as BCR chairman

The Peruvian government accepted Tuesday the resignation of Javier Silva Ruete, as president of the central bank BCR, according to information published in the country's official gazette. Silva, who was previously economy minister in the current government, is also a director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), received criticism regarding the incompatibility of his position as IMF director while president of BCR Silva's departure occurs at the same time as a group of congress members presented a bill to modify the legislation governing cenbank powers, with the aim of preventing its directors from working for other financial organizations. Silva had indicated agreement with this amendment parliamentary motion, specifying that these changes should be implemented during the next government.
