PRESS RELEASE from Acenor
October 2024
CODELCO, Teck, Sierra Gorda SCM, Anglo American, Antofagasta Minerals, Minera Valle Central and Polpaico Soluciones received certificates for renewable energy traced through the RENOVA platform, a tool promoted by the National Electric Coordinator (CEN) to provide traceability to contracts between generators and free clients.
According to the CEN, the National Registry of Renewable Energy (RENOVA) saw a 68% growth in its use. In its balance sheet for 2023, contracts were drawn up for 206 companies, which compares with 177 that participated in the 2022 balance sheet. In terms of energy, there were 19,991 GWh in the latest registry, which compares with 11,874 GWh in the previous year. The total electricity drawn up is equivalent to around 40% of the consumption of free customers.
RENOVA is a voluntary platform for companies, created in 2019, and which operates based on blockchain technology, centralizing traceability, which has benefits such as avoiding double counting of energy, as well as providing information required by consumers.
This renewable energy is used by different companies that produce goods and services. Most of the energy is used in Antofagasta (11,690 GWh), Santiago (2,058 GWh), Valparaíso (2,056 GWh) and Atacama (1,813 GWh), according to information provided by the National Electric Coordinator.
