Snapshot: April sees US$1bn in Chile wind projects submitted for review
Two wind projects involving combined investment of US$1bn have been submitted for environmental review in Chile so far this month.
Both target zones to the south of capital Santiago, where demand, particularly from industry, exists.
Las Fresias
Branded Las Fresias and with a price tag of US$500mn, the latest was submitted by RWE, which plans to install 310MW in Ñuble region. Other components are a transmission line, a substation and a battery storage system. BNamericas reported recently that battery systems – today chiefly linked to solar initiatives – were being mulled for wind projects.
Work is penciled in to start in April 2027, according to information from review agency SEA.
El Sauzal
Proposed by Consorcio Eólico, El Sauzal involves outlay of US$500mn to install 360MW on the Maule-Ñuble provincial border.
Work on the project, which also involves a a substation and power line, is due to start in January 2029.
