Snapshot: Where the bulk of América Móvil's revenues are coming from

The largest telecoms player in Latin America, América Móvil, has operations in 16 countries in the region, but two of them concentrate almost 60% of the group’s revenues.

While Brazil stands as the largest mobile operation per accesses, home country Mexico remains at the top when it comes to total revenues, the company’s quarterly figures indicate.

América Móvil reported revenues of 206 billion pesos (US$11.5bn) in the second quarter, up 1.5% year-on-year.

Nearly 40% of sales were registered in Mexico and over 19% in Brazil.

The balance came from Colombia, Argentina and Peru, followed by operations in Ecuador, Chile, Central America and the Caribbean.

The figures consider only América Móvil’s Latin America footprint, but the telco also operates in Europe through Telekom Austria and provides services to some Eastern European markets.

Overall, the group ended June with nearly 314 million mobile lines globally, up 3.6% year-over-year, and 74.3mn fixed lines, up 1.3%. Of the latter’s total, 32.9mn accounted for fixed broadband, an increase of 4.9% annually.

In Brazil, the group registered roughly 4mn mobile accesses more than Mexico, where it operated 84mn in June. Colombia followed with over 40mn lines.

In fixed broadband, Mexico is ahead of Brazil with 10.9mn versus 10.1mn subscriptions. More distantly, Colombia trailed with around 3.6mn accesses.

Yet, considering the broader fixed line segment (pay TV and landlines), Brazil led with 22.7mn accesses versus 21.7mn in Mexico.

During Q2, América Móvil added 2.4mn subscribers, with Brazil gaining 907,000, Colombia 183,000 and Mexico 99,000.

América Móvil reported 376,000 new broadband accesses, with Mexico adding 148,000, followed by Brazil and Argentina with almost 63,000 each.
