South American aluminum output rises
Production of primary aluminum in South America rose 7.95% year-on-year to 95,000t in June, the highest since last August and above the 90,000t mark for the first time since December.
Output rose 10.5% compared to May, the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) reported.
The region produced 1.069Mt of aluminum in the last 12 months, while output in 2018 reached 1.164Mt, IAI data shows.
IAI's South America figures are for Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela, the region's only producers of primary aluminum.
Reported global primary aluminum production totaled 5.25Mt in June, down from 5.33Mt in the same month 2018, the IAI said. Global output in 2018 reached 64.3Mt.
