South American aluminum production dips in September
Production of primary aluminum in South America fell 0.89% year-on-year in September to 111,000t, the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) reported on Friday.
South American output rose 2.57% year-on-year to 1.04Mt in the first nine months 2017.
The region produced 1.39Mt over the past 12 months, while output in 2016 reached 1.36Mt, IAI data shows.
IAI's South America figures are for Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela, the region's only producers of primary aluminum.
Global primary aluminum production totaled 4.93Mt in September, down from 5.08Mt in the same month 2016, IAI said. Global output in 2016 was 58.9Mt.
