Spain's Mtech eyeing Brazil to expand international footprint

Spanish firm Mtech is eyeing the Brazilian renewable energy market, while also considering rail sector opportunities.

The company, which provides engineering services for the control, protection and monitoring of electrical infrastructure, is now looking to hire a person to be based in Brazil in order to explore local business opportunities, Karmelo Lopez de Arbina, Mtech’s international strategy director, told BNamericas on the sidelines of the Energyear Brazil 2024 conference.

As of January, the executive has been in charge of evaluating markets for the firm's international expansion and the current focus in Latin America is on Brazil, where it has been involved in some contracts in the past.

"Brazil is so large and has such particular characteristics that it deserves a specific focus. Alone, Brazil is the equivalent of a continent," said the executive.

"We have seen companies with great challenges regarding capex pressures and we bring innovations that ultimately help our partners be more competitive," he said.
