Spanish certification system to debut in 6 months

Mexico could be the first country in Latin America to start offering the UNE71502 certificate, Spain's equivalent to ISO quality certification for IT processes, Mexican daily El Universal quoted members of the Spanish certification board (AENOR) as saying. Within six months Mexico could start certifying companies for UNE71502 and universities and companies from the health and banking sectors are already interested, the newspaper quoted AENOR Mexico's director José Andrés García and strategic and corporate development manager Carlos Manuel Fernández as saying. Fernández said that UNE71502 could become an international norm in 2007 so companies could benefit from implementing it now. García said the norm assures a company meets three basic IT security requirements: integrated information systems, confidentiality, and availability. He added that the UNE71502 concept was about having the capacity to detect problems and weaknesses and learn that security is not a product but a continuous process of upgrading.
