Spanish renewable energy group secures Panama dispatch nod
Panama’s environment ministry approved a project submitted by Ecoener Solar Panamá to dispatch solar power production.
The local unit of Madrid-based Ecoener plans to build a 3.5km transmission line to connect four planned photovoltaic plants to state power transmission company Etesa’s San Bartolo substation in Veraguas province.
The plants are La Mesa, Agua Viva, San Bartolo and Santiago, all of which have secured environmental approval.
Construction of the line will take around seven months, according to Econer information filed with the ministry.
Ecoener chair Luis de Valdivia recently announced that construction of 50MW of solar capacity in Panama would begin in September.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, Ecoener has a footprint in Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras and the Dominican Republic, with a development pipeline that includes Aruba and Ecuador.
The ministry also approved AES Panama’s 19.99MW Veranera solar project and received environmental documents from San Lorenzo Solar for a 4.4MW project.
