Spotlight: Brazil’s offshore rigs

A total of 30 drilling and well intervention rigs are currently in Brazilian waters, according to data from oil and gas regulator ANP.

National oil company Petrobras, which accounts for most of the country’s exploration and production (E&P), is the contractor of 23 rigs.

The others are hired by PRIO (formerly PetroRio), with two units, and Equinor, TotalEnergies, Karoon, Trident Energy and ANP, with one rig each.

Constellation is the owner of eight rigs, followed by Ocyan (5), Seadrill (4), Transocean (3), Ventura (2), Valaris (2), Helix (2), PRIO (1), Etesco (1), Maersk (1) and Brasdrill (1).

Of the total, 20 are drill ships and 10 semi-submersible units.

They are mostly located off Brazil’s southeast coast, where the main E&P projects are carried out.
