Statkraft to leverage existing South America footprint
South America along with the Nordics and Europe will be the focus of Statkraft as the company prioritizes “high-potential markets.”
The Oslo-based renewable energy group made the announcement to provide further information of the strategy it rolled out in June to target the growth of its core business and optimize its portfolio through selective divestments.
“Outside Europe we will dedicate new investments to South America, where the opportunities to achieve scale and leverage our core capabilities are strong,” Statkraft president and CEO Birgitte Ringstad Vartdal said in a statement.
The company’s South America operations span Brazil, Chile and Peru.
“We don't plan to expand our geographical scope outside Brazil, Peru and Chile,” a Statkraft spokesperson told BNamericas.
Statkraft information shows that its Brazil portfolio consists of 18 operational hydropower plants and eight wind farms in operation or under construction, totaling an installed capacity of over 2,000MW.

In Chile, the company operates three run-of-the-river plants for a combined 371MW and is developing solar and wind projects, such as Vientos del Desierto, which envisions 123MW solar, 317MW wind and associated battery storage.
And Statkraft’s Peru footprint includes nine operational hydros for a combined 450MW
