Studies planned for revamp of Dominican Republic hydro park

Dominican Republic state hydroelectric company Egehid launched bidding to carry out studies for the overhaul of its power generation plants.

The park consists of 27 dams, seven run of the river plants and three counter-dams for a total of 624MW and annual average output of 1,460GWh, or 11% of the national grid’s installed capacity.

The consultancy work entails preparing the conceptual and executive design of the plants which have been divided into three groups.

The first group targets eight plants for a combined 402MW that require urgent and complex intervention, Egehid highlights.

Offers for the nine-month contract are due in December with a decision expected the following month, according to procurement information.

Egehid also has calls underway to define the potential of pumped storage hydropower and support development of the Guayubín, or Boca de los Ríos, dam project.
