The Superintendency of Home Public Services (Superservicios) and the Vanti company warned about the implications of the scourge of gas theft by criminal structures that put the well-being and safety of citizens at serious risk, due to the illegal connections that can cause leaks and explosions, among other dangers.

As part of the commitments established in the work tables that Superservicios articulates with companies in the sector to optimize the quality and continuity of this service, the delegate superintendent for Energy and Fuel Gas, Sandra Téllez, warned that, “ the organized gangs and Merchants use inappropriate practices to not record their consumption and reduce the value of their bill. For us at the superintendency, this has a special importance to review, since the safety of the entire sector is put at risk,” he expressed.

During the visit to the Vanti facilities, the Superservicios technical team learned about the processes and procedures carried out to detect fraud, control it and initiate the corresponding processes for the recovery of consumption. Among the company's actions, the analyzes in a certified laboratory stand out, where the alteration of gas meters is evaluated, in accordance with the standards that govern the sector.

The manipulation of meters, internal and external networks - illegal connections -, without compliance with technical standards, can cause gas leaks, poisoning and in the worst case, emergencies due to explosions.

Everyone to report!

Germán Henao, vice president of Legal and Corporate Affairs at Vanti, explained that it is vitally important to work hand in hand with Superservicios to resolve this problem that generates so much concern for the communities. “ Safety is an issue that we must all take care of, not only distributors but also users. Those who see the meter being manipulated, immediately contact the hotlines, the prosecutor's office and report it, because this is a matter that threatens the safety and lives of all inhabitants ," said the manager.
