Surf Telecom, the only mobile phone company in Brazil controlled 100% by national capital, grew 23% in October compared with September, and repeated the trend of recent months. The largest “factory” of Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) in the Americas, Surf has been, since August 2024, the fourth largest mobile phone operator in Brazil, behind only Vivo, Claro and TIM.

According to data from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), in October, the company led the expansion in the prepaid market, with 47,400 new subscriptions. The operator grew in all regions of the country. From January to October, Surf was also the operator that grew the most in the segment, with 240,000 new accesses, ahead of Vivo, Tim and Claro. With this result, the company now has 216,000 more customers than Claro, second place in the category.

It was also the first in the ranking of additions in post-paid telephony in the corporate segment, with 112,100 new contracts by legal entities. This number places Surf with 117,100 more customers than Claro, in the sequence of this market. In total, Surf Telecom gathered, in October, 1.86 million customers in all the modalities in which it operates.

Strategy

Surf Telecom is present in more than 5,000 Brazilian cities, focusing on the Business to Business to Consumer (B2B2C) business model. “Surf’s continued growth and consolidation as the largest telephone operator in the country, after the three major operators in the market, demonstrates the success of our business strategy and the correct choice of partners,” explains Yon Moreira, founding partner of Surf.

“After the attack on Surf Telecom by Plintron, necessity became the mother of creativity. The company created its own platform to support all of our MVNO operations. Surf BSS emerged after 200,000 hours of development, created entirely by Brazilian technicians, employees of the company itself, and is now an international reference. We already have more than 300 partners from various economic sectors, including the Brazilian post office, one of the largest and most respected Brazilian institutions, responsible for the largest logistics and services network in the country,” says Davi Fraga, managing partner and CMO of Surf Telecom.

Another business strategy adopted by Surf that has resulted in the expansion of its customer base is its partnership with regional service providers (ISPs) that are leaders in the national internet market and have begun to include mobile telephony in their services. “Together, local broadband providers have a greater share of the national market than any of the major operators that dominate voice services in the country. Surf is committed to working closely with these companies as a way of bringing the quality of our services to an ever-increasing audience, where we already have over 100,000 customers,” concludes Davi Fraga.
