Tech overhaul planned for Ecuador thermopower plant

Ecuador state power generator Termopichincha launched bidding to revamp the 55MW Jivino thermoelectric complex in Sucumbíos province.

The company, a unit of state power corporation Celec, is looking to install a Scada system at the 11MW Jivino II plant.

Offers for the 1,355-day contract with a reference budget of nearly US$1mn are due December 20, according to procurement details.

Jivino uses fuel oil and supplies the national interconnected system.

Meanwhile, Celec canceled the call to draft the definitive design of the stepped spillway as part of defensive measures to protect the 1.5GW Coca Codo Sinclair hydro plant’s water intake from erosion of the Coca river.

The tender for the U$1.65mn, 360-day contract fell through due to errors in the process.

Information about whether a new call would be issued was not disclosed.

Celec also reported that its power transmission unit, Transelectric, has completed nearly 77% of the US$29.5mn, 230/138kV La Avanzada project. 

La Avanzada will boast 150MVA capacity and strengthen dispatch along the coast, connecting the national transmission system and power distributor CNEL’s grid in El Oro province. The works include a 4km line.
