Telefónica Tech launches a blockchain-based document certification service
Press release
By Telefónica
Madrid, September 2, 2021. Telefónica Tech today announces the launch of an innovative blockchain-based certification service that allows any company to authenticate documents, transactions, projects, files or any type of digital content quickly, easily and with legal support.
Each certification generated through the TrustOS managed blockchain service combines the user's digital signature (effective proof of the applicant's identity) with the footprint of the content to be certified (demonstrates that the original content remains unaltered since it was certified) and the seal of time inherent in blockchain to establish with complete certainty the moment when the certification was issued. The new Telefónica Tech service allows companies to generate with the same probative value digital evidence of authorship, possession and integrity of the dynamic history of versions and interactions of any digital format (files, images, emails, etc.), compared to a digital signature classic that only offers these guarantees for a specific version of a PDF document.
The service, which is built on the TrustOS platform designed by Telefónica Tech to facilitate and simplify the connection of companies' business processes with the blockchain network, allows building unlimited use cases for numerous productive sectors:
- Training: Certificates of attendance at courses, congresses and fairs, academic degrees and professional accreditations.
- Industrial property: Business secrecy, software deposit, brand protection, infringements on protected content, safeguarding of engineering projects and construction plans.
- Products: Certificates and compliance with the conditions of guarantee, authenticity and limited series, proof of origin and / or ownership, evidence of conservation and transmissions.
- Media: Authorship of images and multimedia content, registration of original content, among others.
- Agro: Registration of field notebooks, quality certificates and biosanitary analysis.
- Administrative and legal: Contracts and documents, registration of confidential information, minutes and notifications, digital certification and notarization.
- Insurance: Visual record of claims and documentary evidence, as well as documentation record.
Telefónica's Legal Affairs & Digital Legal Transformation area has started a pilot to carry out with this technology the monitoring of confidential information exchanged with Telefónica's partners in different projects. Through simple integration with existing information and document registration systems, employees who exchange confidential information record the documentation and / or email they send to the counterparty. In this way, when there is an incident or claim related to potential breaches of the confidentiality clauses of any contract, it is possible to demonstrate with digital evidence what information has been shared, when and with whom, quickly identifying the source of the claim and in its case drastically reducing the resolution time of these incidents.
For Luis Prendes, global director of Legal Affairs & Digital Legal Transformation at Telefónica, “the incorporation of innovative technologies such as blockchain in contract management and legal documentation, in general, is a key step for the secure digital transformation of companies. Thanks to this innovative solution, there is absolute traceability of the sensitive information that leaves the perimeter of the company and it is possible to deal much more efficiently with day-to-day problems such as information leaks or breaches of confidentiality clauses " .
