Teleglobo requests Telcor report on intervention period

Bnamericas
Nicaraguan operator Teleglobo has asked industry regulator Telcor to provide a management report for the nearly two years during which the regulator was running its operations, as it seeks to restart mobile services, local newspaper La Prensa reported. The move comes as Teleglobo prepares its case to have its licence to provide telecoms services renewed by the regulator. "We are requesting this report because we want to know what happened to the assets of the company that should have been looked after by the Telcor representatives, we want to know what happened to the 10,000 customers the company had and some of the accounts were we had money, as well as the equipment," Teleglobo legal advisor Gustavo López Tapia was quoted as saying. The company made the request on May 17 and gave Telcor ten days to return the information. Telcor intervened in Teleglobo, a wireless operator covering Nicaragua's central and Pacific coasts, in July 2002 due to serious problems discovered with service interruptions and dropped calls, and appointed an independent manager. "The equipment was very old and obsolete," said Maria Rivas, advisor to the assistant director general of Telcor, confirming the Teleglobo request. Since then, the company has not provided service, but it recently won a court battle and is having its license re-issued to begin operating again. "Teleglobo has not had services for many months, they don't have services now and I suppose that they will have to restart the whole process," Rivas told BNamericas.
