Tender opens for Mexico City's airport control tower

GACM, the state-owned group building Mexico City's new airport, has launched an international tender to build the air traffic control tower.

The contract is for the construction of two structures: a support base and a 90m tall control tower, with a concentric design and hosting a three-level control room.

The winner will also be in charge of equipping the control tower and installing the electrical and special airport systems, all the engineering and architecture, as well as all the mechanisms related to the LEED certification, according to a notice posted on procurement site Compranet.

A clarification meeting will be held on November 7. Interested parties will be able to bid alone or as part of a consortium. Foreign companies bidding must be from countries with which Mexico has trade agreements.

Bids must be filed on November 29. The winner is due to be announced on December 12.

Work must be complete 660 days from the date of the contract's signing.

GACM has already awarded some of the future airport's largest contracts, such as the ones to build runways no. 2 and 3. The winner of the contract to build the airport's terminal building will be announced in December.

By the end of this year, 100bn pesos (US$5.1bn) worth of tenders will have been awarded for the project, which represents 60% of the total needed.
