Tendering processes for the Federal Concession Network begin

Statement from the Ministry of Economy of Argentina

This is an automated translation of the press release issued in Spanish

The Ministry of Economy of the Nation, through the Secretariat of Transport and National Roads, makes available on the institutional website the bidding process for the concessioned sections of the Federal Road Network. In this section you can find all the necessary information about the 12 sections that will make up the Federal Concessioned Network, their maps, details of the routes included, as well as the documentation and schedules planned for the calls for national and international public bidding.

The National Government has arranged for a national and international public tender for 12 sections of roads, most of which were previously managed by Corredores Viales SA and Caminos del Río Uruguay SA, in order to optimize the systems used to operate and maintain those routes that support 80% of the traffic on the Federal Road Network.
Currently, most of these routes are operated at a loss by the public company Corredores Viales SA. This has meant a constant expenditure of the National Budget due to the oversizing it acquired between 2020 and 2023.

The new system, which will carry out the maintenance of roads and highways, as well as the execution of capacity expansion projects, will break with the exclusivity of participation, which is currently limited only to road contractor companies. In the previous concessions, the background information requested restricted the participation of new actors. On the other hand, the tender for the Federal Concession Network allows the participation of any private company that meets the requested guarantees.

In this sense, the private sector will be able to find better mechanisms for subcontracting works, without the restrictions imposed by the Public Works Law. Healthy and transparent market competition between subcontractors will result in better reference prices derived from the companies' own interest in maximizing their profits.

In turn, the application of new rates will be subject to the fulfillment of initial tasks that guarantee the safety and transitability of the routes for users. In addition, the new system ensures that most of the revenue is used for maintenance and construction by reducing the cost of intermediaries.

All information related to the concession process that is beginning will be available and updated on the website of the National Highway Authority , the Ministry of Transport and the Ministries of Economy and Deregulation and State Transformation, so that all interested citizens and companies can easily access it.
