Texas firm to be project manager of US$3.3bn T-MEC corridor
US design and engineering firm AECOM has been selected by Mexico’s Caxxor Group to be the project manager of the US$3.3bn T-MEC rail corridor that will connect Sinaloa state in Mexico with Winnipeg in Canada, via the US.
“The project manager is the one who helps you choose the builders,” Caxxor CEO Carlos Ortiz told BNamericas.
Texas-based AECOM’s portfolio ranges from real estate projects to multiple airport refurbishments, highways and railways. According to the CEO, the firm is currently helping ICA build the 257km stretch four of the 200bn-peso (US$990mn) Maya train between Izamal in Mérida state and Cancún in Quintana Roo state.
The T-MEC corridor involves construction in stages of a new floating port in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, the 180km Durango-Mazatlán rail line and four industrial parks, two of which will be built in Coahuila state and two in Durango state.
In May, Ortiz told BNamericas that Caxxor is looking to start work this year on two of the three main elements, namely the port and the industrial parks. Work on the railway could begin in 2023, he said.
While 80% of the project's new infrastructure involves those three stages in Mexico, the corridor will also use existing infrastructure in all three countries, some of which will be rehabilitated, Ortiz told BNamericas previously.
