The Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV) announces the appointment of Ana Elizabeth Velásquez Rodríguez as the new Director General of Transportation (DGT), with the aim of strengthening the service to citizens, while eliminating arbitrary corruption in the licensing process. This change reflects a user-centered vision and responds to the growing needs of the transportation sector in Guatemala, based on modernizing the institution.

The CIV has structured the management of the DGT around three key pillars:

1. Implementation of processes that generate value and eliminate arbitrariness: Modernization will be promoted through the implementation of new technologies that allow for the optimization of procedures, improved traceability and ensuring that each process is controlled and transparent. Likewise, security will be a priority, seeking to make transportation systems safer and more reliable for transporters and users, improving public confidence in the institution.

2. Institutional modernization: Greater openness of information is promoted, allowing access to relevant data for transporters and users. Financial resources will be strengthened to ensure adequate implementation of technological and infrastructure improvements, as well as staff improvement and training. In addition, clear and efficient communication with users is guaranteed, facilitating the resolution of problems and order in processes.

3. Team building: Building teams, both internal and external, with capable, proven and committed people is essential for the success of the DGT modernization. Under the new leadership, it is a priority to work hand in hand between ministry staff, service providers and users. For several weeks, inter-institutional working groups have been coordinated with service providers, the General Directorate of Protection and Road Safety – PROVIAL –, the Department of Traffic of the National Civil Police and other government institutions, to coordinate efforts and improve road safety and processes within the DGT.

Ana Elizabeth Velásquez Rodríguez has a degree in Legal and Social Sciences with a specialization in public administration. She has vast experience in public management and the simplification of administrative procedures. Her appointment not only responds to the need to modernize the DGT, but also to the importance of responding to the demands of transporters and users, who for a long time have not been adequately served.

The new administration of Velásquez Rodríguez has the firm intention of working closely and collaboratively with all the actors involved in the transport sector, seeking to generate strategic solutions that promote development, continuous improvement and the elimination of corruption in the country's transport systems.

The CIV reaffirms its commitment to work to promote modern, transparent and results-oriented management that guarantees a safer, more efficient and accessible transportation system for all Guatemalans.
