The Energy and Gas Regulatory Commission (CREG) continues to work to guarantee a reliable energy supply for Colombians. For this reason, it is currently carrying out the analysis of the balance of Firm Energy Supply and Demand for the period 2025-2029.

Based on this study, we seek to ensure reliability in the supply of electrical energy in the short and medium term. It is also determined whether there is a need to call new reconfiguration or expansion auctions, depending on what is required and in accordance with current regulations.

“These Commission analyzes are carried out with the purpose of timely monitoring the reliability of our electrical system,” stressed Antonio Jiménez Rivera, Executive Director of the CREG.

The study is being carried out after the auction to expand the Reliability Charge, called by CREG Resolution 101 034A of 2022 and carried out on February 151. In this way, the CREG advances in the analyzes of the energy balance considering the impacts of the entry into force of the new model for determining the firm energy of solar plants2 and the change in the adjustment factor when information is not declared on site3.

On the other hand, the Commission is advancing the monitoring of the evolution of energy demand in the system compared to the projections prepared in January by the Mining and Energy Planning Unit (UPME), while the new projections are reported in the first days of the month. August in accordance with what was stated by the Unit to this Commission.

In the analysis that is being carried out, the transmission capacity information assigned by the Unit to the generation projects with a cut-off on November 30, 2023 is also taken into account.

“Once these analyzes are concluded and in execution of the indicative agenda presented at the beginning of 2024, the Commission will promptly publish the corresponding draft resolutions, in the case in which new calls apply for the periods 2025-2026, 2026-2027, 2027-2028 and 2028-2029.”, reported Jiménez Rivera, Executive Director of the Entity.
