Lima, November 26, 2024.- The Private Investment Promotion Agency - PROINVERSIÓN today promoted the signing of concession contracts to develop five electric transmission projects, between the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) and the company ALUPAR Perú SAC.
These projects will strengthen the supply of electricity and provide greater reliability and transmission capacity for the benefit of 4 million inhabitants, and will boost industrial, commercial and service activities in Lima, Ica and Ayacucho.
These five electrical projects, which belong to Group 2 of the 2023-2032 Transmission Plan, include the “Chilca CTM-Carabayllo 500 kV Transmission Line - Third Circuit” (Lima); “New Bicentennial 500/220 kV Substation” (Lima); “Chavarría – Santa Rosa – Carapongo 220 kV Link Reconfiguration” (Lima); “New Muyurina 220 kV Substation, New Ayacucho Substation, Muyurina-Ayacucho 220 kV LT” (Ayacucho); and “Expansion of the Ica Electrical System Supply Capacity (ITC Project)” (Ica).
Likewise, they were awarded by PROINVERSIÓN in August 2024 to the company Alupar Perú SAC, which later, as established by the contest rules, established the company Transmisora Sierra Azul SAC as a concessionaire.
PROINVERSIÓN Executive Director José Salardi highlighted the signing of this contract because it represents a crucial step for the prompt implementation of projects that will strengthen the provision of electric energy, with greater reliability and transmission capacity in Lima, Ica and Ayacucho.
The concessionaire will be responsible for the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the projects. The concession period, calculated from the signing of the contracts, includes the construction period and 30 years of operation and maintenance of the infrastructure, after which it will revert to the Peruvian State.
The five Group 2 projects, which involve an estimated investment of US$441 million, are part of the package of 18 electrical projects that the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) commissioned to PROINVERSIÓN in February 2023 within the framework of the 2023-2032 Transmission Plan.
In June of this year, the agency awarded Group 1 of electric companies, consisting of three electrical projects (US$ 329 million) to benefit 1 million people in Ica and Arequipa.
Group 4, made up of three projects (US$ 101 million), will be awarded in December 2024 and will benefit more than 700,000 people from Ucayali (Padre Abad and Coronel Portillo), Junín (Chanchamayo) and Áncash (Huaylas and Huaraz).
Meanwhile, Group 3, consisting of four electrical projects (US$ 134 million), which will benefit 2.3 million people in Lima, Arequipa, Apurímac and Puno, is expected to be awarded in the first quarter of 2025.
