Guatemala, September 14, 2022. On September 14, 2022, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Superintendency of Tax Administration, the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing , and the Ministry of Economy , celebrated the start of construction of the facilities. Guatemalan border crossing points at the Ingenieros-Nuevo Orizaba Cargo Crossing Point, in the municipality of Ixcán Quiché, which was named “Bicentennial Customs”.

This activity reaffirms the commitment of the President of the Republic of Guatemala, Dr. Alejandro Giammattei , to implement concrete initiatives that are transformed into economic growth and development, particularly in the border area and in the construction of Walls of Prosperity.

The excellent bilateral relationship with Mexico and the joint work that has been carried out in an inter-institutional manner, made it possible to materialize this initiative to have a Freight Crossing Point, considered strategic, which will provide greater connectivity and new alternatives to exports and imports within the framework of bilateral trade and will facilitate the interconnection of regional markets.

Additionally, the new border facilities will allow the reduction of logistics costs for exports by having the infrastructure and technology that will facilitate trade through the reduction of border management times and the productive chain in different sectors.

The prompt authorization of this Crossing Point will allow for the presence of the State in this area, consolidating the efforts of Guatemalan institutions to promote formality and legality at the border and to intensify efforts in terms of border security.
