The Minister of Energy and Mines together with President Castillo visited the Camisea plant to promote the massification of natural gas

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo Terrones, accompanied by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Eduardo González Toro, and a delegation of Ministers of State, flew over the natural gas fields of Camisea, in the district of Megantoni (province of La Convencion, Cusco region) and visited the Malvinas plant, of the Camisea Consortium, which is led by Pluspetrol.
The General Manager of Pluspetrol, Adrián Vila, received the Government delegation and expressed his support for the proposal to promote the massification of natural gas for the benefit of all Peruvians.
The Minister of Energy and Mines reported that Camisea, the most important gas field in the country and one of the most important in Latin America, has a production of 1,600 million cubic feet per day (mmdpd), an amount that would supply twice the demand for the whole country.
Along these lines, he pointed out that the Government will promote projects that allow natural gas to be brought, mainly, to the most needy populations in the country, providing them with an economical and eco-friendly energy supply.
"We are working so that the natural gas produced in the country is used by Peruvians in homes, dining rooms, common pots, posts, hospitals, shelters, restaurants, laundries, bakeries, light and heavy vehicles, as well as in electricity generation" Eduardo González Toro emphasized.
Likewise, he specified that his sector is working to promote the change of the energy matrix to replace the use of gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas with natural gas that is extracted from Peruvian soil.
