Through Executive Decree 400, of April 14, 2022, the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, ordered the modification of the name of "Ministry of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources" by "Ministry of Energy and Mines".
With the issuance of this Decree, what was announced by the President, yesterday, April 13, 2022 in Tiputini, Orellana, regarding the start of production of the first well in the Ishpingo field, which is part of Block 43-ITT, is confirmed.
“Here I am, accompanied by the Minister of Energy and Mines, because that is what the Ministry is called from today. We have many challenges both in hydrocarbons, as in minerals and in energy produced through hydroelectric, wind, photovoltaic, geothermal. This is the great wealth of Ecuador” said President Lasso, who also stressed that this change drives government institutions to ensure optimal use of the country's resources.
The Minister of Energy and Mines, Juan Carlos Bermeo Calderón, emphasized that the change of name in no way means a division in the institution; on the contrary, it strengthens the ministerial management according to the guidelines of the Government of the Meeting.
The Ministry of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources must complete the name modification process in a term not exceeding 30 days, counted from the date of signing the Executive Decree.
The Energy and Mines portfolio ratifies its commitment to the country to promote responsible and efficient use of oil, mining and electrical resources, pillars of the Ecuadorian economy, for the benefit of Ecuador and its citizens.
