Three groups after US$250mn Colombia airport concession

Three groups are competing for a US$251 million concession for Gustavo Rojas Pinilla airport, serving Colombia's San Andrés island.

The bidders are Termotecnica Coindustrial, CSS Construcciones and SP Ingenieros, the head of infrastructure agency ANI, Francisco Ospina, told reporters.

The 30-year concession should be awarded in the fourth quarter and includes financing, administration, operation and maintenance, among other items.

The winner must build a 13,500m2 passenger terminal, install new boarding bridges, construct buildings for medical services, a cargo terminal, and set up public areas in front of the new passenger terminal, among other works.

ANI estimates pre-construction to take 18 months and construction three years.

After the modernization, the facility will have capacity to handle 2.8mn passengers per year, compared to the 2.1mn the current airport handled last year.

Authorities expect works to generate 8,800 jobs.
