Three groups present offers for Panama metro line

State-owned metro operator Metro de Panamá received three proposals for the tender to construct capital Panama City's No. 2 subway line.

Proposals were submitted by three consortiums comprised of companies from China, Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Spain, Metro de Panamá said in a statement.

THE CONTENDERS

UTE Panama II is a three-country consortium, consisting of Spain's Dragados, Mexico's Ingenieros Civiles Asociados (ICA) and Peru's Graña y Montero (GyM).

Consorcio Línea 2 is comprised of Brazilian construction firm Construtora Norberto Odebrecht and Spain's FCC Construcciones. Both firms formed the Línea 1 consortium, which won the tender to build the operating Panamá City metro line No. 1.

PANAMetro-Consorcio Internacional Metro de Panamá L2 is formed by Chinese firms China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), China Railway First Group and Spain's Corsán-Corviam.

The technical offers for the metro line can receive a maximum 510 points and will account for 51% of the final percentage, while the economic proposal can receive up to 490 points and will account for 49%.

In addition to construction proposals, bidders were required to provide a US$50mn guarantee for the project, according to local press reports.

In its first phase, the US$2bn metro line entails the construction of a 21km elevated line with sixteen stations, including one interconnection with line No. 1, and will move 16,000 passengers per hour. Full construction time for the project is anticipated at 46 months.
