Three groups qualify for US$350mn Peru power concession

Peru’s investment promotion agency ProInversión qualified three groups for a 30-year power transmission concession in Lima, Ica and Ayacucho.

The contract is for the 500kV Chilca CTM-Carabayllo line (third circuit), new 500/220kV Bicentenario substation, overhaul of the 220kV Chavarría-Santa Rosa-Carapongo link, new 220kV Muyurina substation, the 220kV Muyurina-Ayacucho line, and expansion of the Ica system.

Estimated investment reaches US$350 million.

The potential bidders are Alupar Perú, Atlántica Perú and Interconexión Eléctrica. Offers are due to be submitted end-August.

The projects are part of power grid coordinator COES’ 2023-32 transmission plan and the winner will have 36-53 months to bring the infrastructure online.

Other concession calls underway are for the 220kV Palca substation and Palca-La Pascana line, the 220kV Planicie-Industriales link, and 138kV links Abancay Nueva-Andahuaylas and San Rafael-Ananea; and the 220kV Aguaytía-Pucallpa line and the Tarma-Chanchamayo and Huaraz systems.

In recent weeks, ProInversión awarded a contract to boost electricity dispatch in Ica and Ayacucho.

Maximum demand in Peru this year through end-May was 7,762MW on February 7 compared to last year’s maximum demand of 7,606MW on April 11, COES information shows.
